When children who have been traumatized by abuse, neglect or abandonment receive effective treatment, they are less likely to develop problems that can lead to failure in school, substance abuse, incarceration or becoming abusive parents. Through counseling and other programs, Maryville helps people identify and address their personal challenges, allowing them to find strengths that they did not know they had and to

break down the barriers to healthy growth and development.

Growing up can be especially challenging for children who have experienced trauma, who are developmentally delayed, or who are dealing with substance abuse or mental illness. Through programs designed to provide youth with a solid educational foundation and to give them the skills they need to succeed in the world, Maryville seeks to make this

transition a little less challenging.

Parents often need education and guidance in how to care for their children. Families harmed by substance abuse and mental illness need help in learning coping and communication skills. Through individual and

family counseling and programs designed to teach good parenting skills, we can help to ensure that children grow up in a safe and stable environment– keeping families together when possible and reuniting

families that have been hurt and disrupted by crisis.

Families who are struggling with substance abuse, violence, mental illness or other crises have difficulty contributing to society as they would without those challenges. Through programs designed to break the cycles of substance abuse, teach individuals and families coping and communication skills, provide safe and healthy homes for children who need them and

help young people with or without families to learn how to live more independently, Maryville aims to build a better community: one child and one family at a time.
