We believe that the best place for children to grow up is in families.
Maryville offers resources to support and preserve families through a
respectful, strengths-based approach that views the family as central to
the child's well-being.
We do this by:
• Working with the families to ensure the safety and well-being of all
family members.
• Strengthening the capacity of families to function effectively.
• Engaging, empowering, and partnering with families throughout the
decision- and goal-making processes.
• Providing individualized services for each family.
• Linking families through community-based networks of support and
services.
Crisis Nursery
Maryville provides short-term emergency shelter for children newborn through age five. Families use the Maryville Crisis Nursery on a voluntary basis, knowing that their children will be safe and secure while they are dealing with crises. While staying with us at the Maryville Crisis Nursery, children are cared for in a nurturing environment, and are provided a safe haven from experiences and environments that could harm them. Families receive support through crisis intervention, counseling and referrals to community resources. Maryville’s Crisis Nursery is the only such facility in the Chicago Metropolitan area.
Care for Medically Fragile Children
Parents of medically fragile children can become overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for their children. Maryville’s Children’s Healthcare Center offers them a much needed break by providing 24- hour skilled nursing care for their children. Parents have the option to remain on-site to learn the proper care and treatment for their child.
Parenting Skills Training
We provide teen mothers with training on basic parenting skills, including child development, behavior management, promotion of health and nutrition, educational achievement and structure. In addition, Maryville residents have the opportunity to meet individually with a parent educator regarding their specific parenting challenges and needs.
Fatherhood Initiative
Fathers play an important role in the healthy development of children. Maryville’s Fatherhood Initiative encourages fathers to become more active and involved in raising their children. We encourage them to develop a positive relationship with the child’s mother; spend time with their children; become more nurturing parents; learn how to properly discipline their children; serve as protectors, providers, and positive role models.
