The newest program on the Des Plaines Campus is the Maryville St. Martin de Porres program for young men aged 14-17. These youngsters come to us from more restrictive settings and will spend six to nine months in the program learning the skills they will need in their next, less restrictive, placement. The program is designed to help these boys learn to manage their behavior through education, therapy and vocational training.
The youth have been diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorders. Once the child is stabilized, our goal is to work with the boy to:
▫ Increase his ability to take responsibility for actions
▫ Increase his empathy for others
▫ Increase his job skills
▫ Increase his independent living skills
▫ Increase his ability to release anxiety in open/recreational
Overall, we want to enable the young man to return to his family or transition to assisted or independent living.
