1. Donor makes a gift using cash, credit card, check, securities or other property to Maryville. 

2. Donor and Maryville work together to complete matching gift program paperwork.

3. Donor’s Employer makes a matching gift to Maryville.

4. Donor enjoys tax deduction based on the value of the original gift.

Your deduction will be based on the value of the original gift that you made. Depending upon the form of that gift, you will be able to deduct the full value of the gift up to 30 (for stock or bond gifts) or 50%  (for cash, check or credit card gifts) of your adjusted gross income. 

Assuming that you do not exceed the adjusted gross income limits for the type of gift you made, your tax benefits might look something like this:

          Donor’s Gift to Maryville $10,000

          Employer’s Matching Gift to Maryville $10,000                      

          Charitable Deduction @ 35% tax rate $  3,500

          (based on $10,000 that Donor gave, does not include $10,000 that     

          Employer gave)

When you make your gift, simply let us know that your employer matches gifts by checking the box on the gift card or by sending us a note with your check or credit card payment.   We will follow-up with you to ensure that the matching gift is completed.

If you made a gift in the last year (and in some cases, in prior years) but forgot to let us know that your employer matches gifts – it may not be too late. Depending upon your employer’s matching gift program requirements – there may still be time to apply for a matching gift.
