June 1-5 is Week of Giving, a Virtual Event

After postponing two of its fundraisers when the stay-at-home order was enforced in March, Maryville finds a creative way to raise money for the children and its life-changing programs. Virtual fundraising.

Maryville will host a virtual event, a first of its kind, aptly called the Virtual Week of Giving on June 1-5.

Maryville’s fundraising team, headed by Development Director Megan Biasco, looks forward to Maryville supporters participating and bidding on auction items.

“We are excited to get this virtual event running,” Biasco said. “We are so grateful that our friends, supporters and donors have kept Maryville close to their hearts during this very difficult time.”

Donors can choose to donate any amount, opt for a specific amount, or bid on exciting auction items, from sports memorabilia and tickets, to staycation and entertainment packages, to fashion items, and much more.

Several prominent local and national personalities will share their personal Maryville story and the importance of supporting its fundraising efforts. Their video clips will be uploaded to the online site for the duration of the event.

Maryville had to make the difficult decision of postponing two April fundraisers due to the pandemic: the Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon and the Crisis Nursery Ladies Luncheon.

In spite of the challenges during this time, Maryville’s programs in Bartlett, Chicago and Des Plaines are growing. It is undeterred in helping the children and families in their care.

“We have reached out to many businesses since March,” Biasco shared, “and we are very lucky to be on the receiving end of people’s generosity and kindness, whether in-kind or monetary gifts, to help our programs.”

Click on the link below to go to the Virtual Fundraising page where you can donate and bid on an auction item(s). Thank you for supporting Maryville. We appreciate it.

Maryville receives $20,000 COVID-19 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

Helene K. Pochopien, Maryville’s Children Healthcare Center director of nursing, shares a very special moment with one of the children during a Holiday Heroes event at the Center for Children in Chicago.

To help ease the increased needs of Illinoisans during the COVID-19 pandemic, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) has awarded Maryville Academy a $20,000 grant as part of BCBSIL’s $1.5 million COVID-19 Community Collaboration Fund.

“The grant will be used to support the Maryville Children’s Healthcare Center to specifically pay for nursing staff salaries,” Director of Nursing Helene Pochopien said. “This helps with the cost we have incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Maryville Children’s Healthcare Center (CHC) addresses a need in the community for pediatric primary health care services for medically fragile children. It provides transitional hospital-to-home services for children with complex medical conditions and trains parents on the specialized care their child will need at home.

The CHC is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and nursing staff provides round-the-clock care to ensure the health, safety and well-being of the children entrusted in Maryville’s care.

BCBSIL selected 75 organizations across Illinois with missions focused on access to care, hunger and shelter to receive $20,000 grants to rapidly help address the current crisis.

“We know COVID-19 is challenging the resources that allow local organizations to provide a safety net for people most in need,” said Steve Hamman, president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. “While we continue to help ensure our members have access to the care and coverage they need, these grants allow us to broaden our impact and make a difference in the lives of so many.”
